When our five-year-old daughter Sophia started to exhibit symptoms of COVID, I was certain that I wished to get some medical help right away. While we already had a doctor for her whom we had gone to for years in Basalt, our pediatrician was not available that day for a telemedicine visit. As our daughter had a rash, diarrhea, and an ongoing fever, I knew I did not want to wait.
I called Mountain Family to see if we could get an appointment that day. I was able to secure a telemedicine appointment in the morning with pediatrician Dr. Maria Roques. Although I was not certain how a telemedicine appointment would go, I was able to use my phone and video chat with Dr. Roques. Her approach was gentle, also engaging Sophia to talk about how she was doing and to show her the rash.
Dr. Roques asked me if I would feel more secure with a COVID test. I said I did. We were able to get an appointment in Glenwood in the parking lot with the mobile van. The nurse did a nasal swab test, and then Dr. Roques came out to our car and did a full check-up of Sophia.
As Sophia’s COVID test was done on a Friday, I was so pleased that Dr. Roques called me on a Sunday to confirm that the test results were negative. She also asked after Sophia, whose symptoms were improving.
I was so moved that I made another online donation to Mountain Family. With Mountain Family taking care of my family, I felt that I wanted to express my gratitude with a gift.
