Fruits and vegetables - SQUARE

By Mountain Family Health Centers

There’s lots of vegetables available at the Farmacy at the Glenwood Springs Integrated Health Center. The Farmacy is a community garden with the purpose of educating patients and the public that nutrition is a key part of health. The mantra of the Farmacy is “food is the first medicine.” Currently there are green beans, kale, arugula, squash, and zucchini available for picking. Anyone is welcome to harvest vegetables at any time, no permission required.

Staff and some community members continue to care for the Farmacy. “It’s really an amazing garden,” says Farmacy Director Jenny Lang, FNP. “It’s impressive how we can grow in our small garden.” Lang is also Site Medical Director for Glenwood Springs and oversees several other programs at Mountain Family.

“The best part of the garden is that it’s so welcoming,” continues Lang. “It helps patients realize the importance of what they’re choosing to eat. Food is the most important part of a patient’s health.”

Lang welcomes any additional help with the Glenwood Springs Farmacy. She can be contacted at 970-945-2840 or JLang-Burns@mountainfamily.org. Staff and community members are eligible to volunteer.

Mountain Family hopes to build garden beds at the Rifle Integrated Health Center and Basalt Integrated Health Center for the 2020 growing season.
