Pleased with the ability to serve families through our School Based Health Center (SBHC) in Avon, Mountain Family is now partnering with the Roaring Fork School District to operate five additional SBHCs in Basalt, Carbondale, and Glenwood Springs.
School-based Health Centers are compact health clinics that are located near or in a school, operate during school hours, and partner closely with the schools for the benefit of the students. Mountain Family School-Based Health Centers provides quality, comprehensive health services. Each SBHC is staffed with qualified healthcare professionals and is focused on prevention, early identification, and treatment of medical, dental and behavioral health concerns that can interfere with a student’s learning or overall health. SBHC’s are not urgent care clinics and do not replace a primary care provider or a school nurse’s office. Instead, SBHCs partner with these other teams to ensure kids have excellent health outcomes. Children and adolescents are at the heart of the mission.
“We want every student to have access to affordable, comprehensive, integrated health care services; regardless of their legal status, family circumstance, place of residence, or economic means,” said Superintendent Rob Stein of the Roaring Fork School District. “Offering health services in school where our students spend most of their time, is a convenient and safe means of removing barriers to access and ensuring our students receive the care they need to be healthy and successful in school and life.”
We are happy to announce that we have our school-based health center at Roaring Fork High School in Carbondale ready to provide medical care starting October 5th! Our providers will be able to care for students across the district with a combination of telehealth (consultations via video-chat or by phone in the comfort and safety of your own home) and in- person appointments at any of our open locations. Care will be available during school hours, with some sites offering extended hours. We will keep our website updated with current hours and any changes
We are excited to bring accessible, confidential, culturally sensitive and developmentally appropriate care to the school. We look forward to continuing our expansion efforts in Basalt and Glenwood Springs, with clinics slated to open in the coming months.
Risa Turetsky, Site Medical Director of School Based Health at Mountain Family, added “Our providers are thrilled to care for students at their schools in Basalt, Carbondale, Glenwood Springs, and Avon; in addition to our clinics.”
The Mountain Family Outreach and Enrollment Team can help parents and students apply for private or public health insurance to cover the cost of care. Parents who may have lost their employment or health benefits due to the COVID-19 pandemic may now be eligible for Medicaid, federal subsidies for commercial health insurance coverage, or other financial assistance programs.
Mountain Family Health Centers also provides medical evaluations for COVID-19 symptoms through our SBHCs and free testing at our clinics in Glenwood Springs, Basalt, and Rifle.
