October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the time each year when we try to get the word out about the importance of breast cancer screening and show support for those affected by breast cancer.
Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer, accounting for nearly 2 million cases globally each year. Early detection is key, which is why self-beast exam, clinical breast exam, and routine screening with mammography is so important.
The CDC recommends screening mammography once every two years for women ages 50-74 unless additional risk factors are present. Learn more about potential risk factors here.
