Dr. Glass’s interest in dentistry for underserved areas began when he saw the value that a nonprofit clinic brought to remote populations in his home state of Virginia. Ever since, he has been passionate about dentistry and community service. Dr. Glass and his wife came west after he completed dental school at Virginia Commonwealth University. Along with their dog Oso, they enjoy being in the mountains, climbing, skiing, and biking.
Audrey Fisher joined Mountain Family in 2018 and is dedicated to providing compassionate, individualized dental care. She is originally from New Castle and is overjoyed to be back with family, friends, and the wonderful community here. In her free time, she loves skiing, swimming, hiking, and relaxing with a good book. Dr. Fisher earned her Bachelor of Science from the University of Colorado Boulder in 2008 and then continued on to earn her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Colorado Denver in 2018.
A recent transplant to Rifle, Dr. Sheridan grew up in Tampa, Florida. Prior to completing his DMD at Roseman University in Salt Lake City, Utah, he took a gap year to explore the western slope of the Rockies by bike. After experiencing the outdoor splendor of Colorado, he became determined to settle down there, and the rest is history! Dr. Sheridan enjoys the delicate artistry of dentistry and works passionately to help people smile. In his spare time, he enjoys biking the local trails, fishing, and kayaking. He is particularly excited to explore the local waterways without fear of alligators and sharks!
Estela Lujan-Ortiz joined Mountain Family in 2019. She is originally from Glenwood Springs and grew up in Garden City, Kansas. Estela earned her Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene in 2017 from Wichita State University and is fluent in Spanish and English. Estela is motivated to help improve community health by providing exceptional care to patients and spreading awareness of dental health. In her free time, she enjoys having fun with her daughter and friends.
Anai joined Mountain Family in 2016, returning to the community where she grew up. Her focus is on education, preventive care and motivating patients towards better oral health. Fluent in both English and Spanish, Anai enjoys building relationships with patients from all of the diverse communities of the Western Slope. She is a graduate of Colorado Northwestern Community College. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, exercising, outdoor activities, and spending time with her family.
Cathy Lettice is originally from Buffalo, New York, where she received her training at SUNY Erie Community College. She became a Registered Dental Hygienist in 2006 and enjoys keeping her skills and knowledge up-to-date through continuing education courses. Cathy moved to the mountains of Colorado in 2012 with her family and joined Mountain Family in 2016. She is licensed in both New York and Colorado, and recently received her permit from the State of Colorado to place Interim Therapeutic Restorations in small cavities. She enjoys running, hiking and life in the mountains.
Elvia Salgado grew up in the Rifle area and earned her Associate of Applied Science in Dental Hygiene at Colorado Northwestern Community College in Rangely. She is compassionate and caring for her patients and her goal is to provide quality care, improve oral health, and prevent disease in her community. Elvia bilingual in English and Spanish. During her free time Elvia enjoys spending time with her family, exercising, and traveling the world.
Alice Kaniff, DDS, DABDSM owned a private practice, in the Suburbs of Chicago, where she was born and raised. Dr. Kaniff was recruited, from her practice, by the United States Air Force. She served active duty, as Lieutenant Colonel, at the USAFA Cadet Dental Clinic, in Colorado Springs, CO.
Dr. Kaniff moved to the Roaring Fork Valley in 2005, as a comprehensive dentist for Basalt, Aspen and Steamboat Springs. She brings her expertise in TMD/ oral facial pain, attention to periodontal disease and its prevention, removable and fixed solutions to tooth loss. In addition, Dr. Kaniff is a treatment specialist in oral appliances therapy for sleep apnea and snoring, as the life saving alternative to CPAP. As a past provider, in Long Term Care facilities, she enhanced and facilitated, the dental care/ preventive needs of the residents, in partnership with the medical staff, social workers and families.
Dr. Kaniff obtained her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Loyola University of Chicago Dental School. Her advanced education includes USAF, Dawson Center of Studies, and Northwestern University. She has specialty certifications, as a Diplomat with American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine.
Dr. Kaniff is an avid reader, a volunteer for Aspen Valley Ski/ Snow board club (AVSC), hikes, and enjoys making sourdough bread.
Dr. Heckert joined Mountain Family in 2014 after completing her residency. She attended Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in Philadelphia, PA, and grew up in Delaware. As an osteopathic physician, she is trained in manipulation to treat a variety of musculoskeletal and internal conditions–a discipline that fit with her long interest in exercise science and nutrition. After hours, Dr. Heckert enjoys skiing, running, rock climbing, and learning Spanish.
Dr. Percy enjoys the broad spectrum of challenges that family medicine offers, although he has particular interests in pediatrics and preventative medicine. While he grew up in Cortez, Colorado and completed his medical residency in Salt Lake City, it was a rotation at Mountain Family that opened his eyes to the attractions of the Colorado and Roaring Fork Valleys, and he’s been here ever since. Dr. Percy earned his MD degree from the University of Colorado School of Medicine, after earning a Bachelor of Science in Biology, with honors, from Stanford University. He is working to improve his moderate Spanish. When not at work, you can find Dr. Percy with his wife (a pediatrician herself) and three kids, exploring the outdoors on foot, bike or skis, or traveling the world.
Dr. Kent joined Mountain Family in 2019. Previously he was an Assistant Professor of Family Medicine in the Air Force, where he taught for nine years. Upon completion of residency training in 2009, Dr. Kent completed additional fellowship training in obstetrics and then began teaching at the University of Nebraska – Offutt Air Force Base Family Medicine program. Four years later, Dr. Kent then joined the faculty of the Travis Air Force Base Family Medicine Residency program near Fairfield, California, where he completed the remaining five years of his Air Force service. Dr. Kent has interests in women’s health and obstetrics, in-office procedures, as well as family and community health. He is board certified in Family Medicine by the American Academy of Family Physicians and is excited to be a part of the Mountain Family team.
Emily Borkovec, M.M.S, PA-C started with Mountain Family Health Centers in 2017. She was born and raised in Iowa and received her undergraduate degree from Minnesota State University. Emily attended the Physician Assistant program at Red Rocks in Denver, earning her Master’s degree with Saint Francis University in Pennsylvania. She is also a graduate of the Roaring Fork Leadership Academy, Class of 2021. Emily has devoted her entire career thus far to community health; she previously worked at two other Federally Qualified Health Centers in Colorado. She stepped up to be the Site Medical Director of the Basalt clinic in 2021. Emily is passionate about the underserved having access to quality, affordable health care. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, backpacking, mountain biking, cooking, and spending time with family and friends.
A native of Glenwood Springs, Dr. Chris Tonozzi is a family physician and a self-proclaimed “data nerd.” Dr. Tonozzi was Mountain Family’s first physician on the Western Slope. He returned to his home town of Glenwood after seeing the need for affordable health care for low income residents. He earned his degree in medicine from the University of Colorado in 1991. Dr. Tonozzi has a special interest in pediatrics and travel medicine. He is also passionate about digitizing medical care and making sure Mountain Family is at the forefront of data-driven health care. He is board-certified in Family Medicine and also sees patients at Valley View Hospital. Dr. Tonozzi loves to spend time traveling and being outdoors with his family, skiing, kayaking and trail running.
Dr. Petrie has practiced medicine in the Vail Valley since 1979, and was previously recognized as Colorado Family Physician of the Year. Dr. Petrie earned his medical degree from the University of Virginia in 1976 and started the Eagle Care Clinic for underserved patients in Eagle County, in 1994. He was excited to continue practicing medicine at the clinic when Mountain Family assumed ownership in 2014. Dr. Petrie is certified by the American Board of Family Medicine, and also sees patients at Vail Valley Medical Center and is the Eagle County Health Officer. Dr. Petrie travels abroad on medical missions, enjoys being a grandfather, and is an active elder at Eagle River Presbyterian Church.
Dr. Mizner loves her role as the internal medicine consultant for MFHC, focusing on autoimmune diseases, endocrinology, and HIV care. Before returning home to Colorado in 2010, she practiced internal medicine, hospice, and HIV care for six years in Prescott, AZ. Before that, she practiced internal medicine in Northern Chile for seven years, running HIV programs in two hospitals, becoming fluent in Spanish along the way. She also spent two years in Ely, Nevada, as the only internist in an extremely rural and isolated setting. She is a former faculty member in internal medicine at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, as well as former head of physician education for UCHSC’s AIDS Education and Training Center. Dr. Mizner earned her MD from the Yale University School of Medicine. When not in the clinic, she can be found with her family on local slopes and hiking trails.
Sandy grew up in an Air Force family, traveling the globe, but she always considered Colorado home. Sandy was thrilled to join Mountain Family in 2008, moving from Akron, Ohio. Prior to that she had worked in various emergency departments and urgent care facilities in Ohio. She also worked with Dr. B.S. Bonyo in his inner-city office and was instrumental in developing a health clinic in Dr. Bonyo’s Kenyan village. Sandy is co-founder of Bonyo’s Kenya Mission, a 501c3 dedicated to ongoing support of the clinic and a growing child educational sponsorship program. Sandy attended University of Texas in Austin for her undergraduate degree, competing in cross country and track. She then completed her medical degree at The Medical College of Ohio and residency in emergency medicine at St. Vincent Medical Center/The Toledo Hospital. She is board certified in Emergency Medicine and primarily does acute care at Mountain Family. Sandy is also a designated civil surgeon approved to carry out immigration medical examinations. When not working, Sandy enjoys all the activities the area has to offer.
Dr. Kelley-Spearing joined Mountain Family in 2019. She grew up in Stowe, Vermont, but has considered Colorado home since 2005, when she moved here after earning her Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from Johns Hopkins University. She worked at the Steadman Clinic in Vail for several years before returning to school. She has always had a strong interest in integrative medicine and sports medicine in addition to rural family medicine. After completing a Master’s Degree in physiology with an emphasis on complementary and alternative medicine at Georgetown University, she earned her D.O. at Rocky Vista University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Parker, CO. Her residency training was in rural, full spectrum family medicine. When not working, you can find Sarah exploring these mountains in numerous ways, but especially backcountry and telemark skiing.
Corrinne came to Mountain Family in 2015 from Salud Family Health Centers in Fort Collins. Corrinne enjoys seeing patients of all ages, helping them achieve better health and wellness. She speaks some Spanish and is always working on getting better. She fell for Colorado while working summers in Rocky Mountain National Park as she attended Penn State University in her native Pennsylvania. Corrinne moved to Colorado in 2002 to work for Salud Family Health Centers in Estes Park for a few years before returning to school, first at the Red Rocks Physician Assistant program, then earning her master’s degree from Saint Francis University. Corrinne’s hobbies include hiking, biking, skiing, camping and backpacking with her husband.
A Salt Lake City native and fluent Spanish speaker, Dr. Aguirre brings a passion for manipulation, preventative medicine and sports medicine, including the education of young athletes and coaches in concussion risks. Dr. Aguirre attended Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine and earned his board certification in family medicine at Southern Colorado Family Medicine in Pueblo, Colorado. Outside of medicine, he is a dedicated family man, outdoor enthusiast and avid baseball fan.
Claire joined Mountain Family in 2015, after earning her Master of Physician Assistant degree from Wichita State University–a program that emphasized primary care in rural and under-served areas. Claire sees patients primarily at the Basalt clinic, where she works to help our community achieve lower rates of lifestyle-related diseases, while she also works on her skills in Spanish. Her background includes guiding on Colorado rivers and trails, as well as owning her own business marketing outdoor recreation to visitors. She enjoys spending time with her husband and son and most weekends you’ll find her surfing river waves or working on a side project that promotes women in river sports.
Dr. Maria Roques is originally from Spain and joined Mountain Family in January 2020. She earned her medical degree at the Medical University of Valencia, Spain and did her Pediatric Residency, specializing in Neonatology at the Hospital La Fe, Valencia, Spain. She worked as a Neonatologist in the same hospital for 2 years until she moved to Edwards, Co in 2005 to be with her husband, a New Jersey native. She did her Pediatric Residency at the Children’s Hospital in Denver and worked at Denver Health for 8 years as a Pediatrician, until she decided to move with her husband and 2 daughters back to Edwards, Co in 2018. She always had a passion for newborns and breastfeeding, and in 2012 founded the Breastfeeding Clinic at Denver Health. In 2018 she received her International Board Certification for Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). In her free time, she loves to Ski, spend time with her family outdoors, and making “Paella”. She is very excited to be part of Mountain Family and to care for our pediatric population.
Megan Voss, PA-C was born and raised in the Roaring Fork Valley and earned her Bachelor of Science from Colorado State University. Megan attended the Physician Assistant program at Red Rocks in Denver and received a Master’s degree from St. Francis University. Megan comes to Mountain Family from another community health center in Alamosa, Colorado. Megan enjoys seeing patients of all ages and is passionate about providing quality and affordable healthcare to the underserved. In Megan’s free time, she enjoys traveling with her family, reading and enjoying the great outdoors.
Melissa Meyer graduated as a Family Nurse Practitioner in December 2017 from Southern Adventist University near Chattanooga, Tennessee. Previously she was a labor and delivery nurse for five years. Melissa also earned her undergraduate degree Southern Adventist University. Melissa and her husband, Will, relocated to Colorado from Chattanooga, and enjoy doing anything outdoors. They are excited to live in Colorado and have two big dogs, a German shepherd and a husky.
Rachel Hickman has been practicing as a nurse practitioner since 2016. She earned her Master of Science in Nursing from University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, where she also received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2012. Rachel has been practicing as a Family Nurse Practioner since 2016 and as a nurse since 2002. Rachel has three children and has lived in the Eagle River Valley for seven years. She enjoys outdoor activities such as mountain biking, cross country skiing, alpine touring and reading a good book.
A skilled Adult Nurse Practitioner, with a well-established talent for the listening and diagnosing that field entails, Debra also specializes in geriatric care. After work, she enjoys outdoor adventures with her husband and two sons, and she plays a wicked game of ping-pong. Debra earned her MSN degree from the University Colorado Health Sciences Center in 1992, with a dual Nurse Practitioner Adult/Geriatric specialty, and she graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of New Mexico with a BSN in 1986.
Before coming to Mountain Family in 2016, Mary spent years working with cancer patients and the underprivileged in Memphis, Tennessee. She received her Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Missouri-Barnes College of Nursing in 2003, and is a 1996 graduate in nursing from the University of Tennessee. On weekends, you’ll find Mary and her family exploring all of the fantastic outdoor activities that Colorado has to offer.
Jessi Pinnock is a Family Nurse Practitioner with 8 years of combined nursing and provider experience focusing on rural healthcare access and preventative medicine. She grew up in the Pacific Northwest and transitioned to Colorado after graduating from the University of Portland School of Nursing in 2012. Jessi earned a Master’s in Nursing with a focus in Family Practice from the University of Colorado in 2017. She enjoys the challenges of learning new languages and hopes to improve her Spanish. Outside of clinic you can find Jessi with her partner and dog enjoying the local climbing, biking, trail running and snowboarding.
Kendra was born and raised outside Boston, MA. She attended Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing for her BSN and MSN. Before becoming a PNP, Kendra worked as a pediatric emergency nurse. After completing her PNP training, Kendra joined a large pediatric practice in Annapolis, MD. During this time, Kendra became a International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). Kendra enjoys caring for well and sick children at every stage, with special interests in newborn care, lactation, and pediatric and adolescent mental health. Outside of work, Kendra loves to spend as much time as she can outside with her children, husband, and their pound-puppy
Kyler is a Colorado native, who holds a Masters degree in Nursing from the University of Northern Colorado where she participated in a fellowship for nurse practitioners who plan to practice in rural areas. Before becoming a provider, she worked as a float nurse in a variety of clinical settings from acute hospital care to family practice. Kyler earned her undergraduate degrees in Nursing from Regis University and in Biology from the University of Colorado, and she worked as a health educator for high school students before becoming a nurse. Kyler grew up in the Denver metro area. She and her husband moved to the High Country in 2019. In her free time, Kyler likes to spend time with her family, read books, ride her mountain bike, hike, and snowboard.
Dr. Gary Schreiner brings three decades of experience in private practice and institutional settings, including extensive experience with adolescents and the U.S. military, counseling servicemen and their families around the world. Previously he was also a school counselor and football and baseball coach. Dr. Schreiner holds a PhD in Marriage and Family Therapy from Texas Tech University. A native Coloradan from Boulder, he chose life on the Western Slope for its slower pace and outdoor opportunities. Dr. Schreiner and his wife enjoy skiing, golf, scuba and travel.
Barbra Corcoran joined Mountain Family as a Behavioral Health Counselor in 2015. A longtime resident, Barb earned her Master of Social Work degree from the University of Denver Graduate School of Social Work in 2015, where she was recognized as a Western Colorado Area Health Professions Scholar and received the Dean Catherine F. Alter award. After hours, you’ll usually find Barbra with her husband and their four children.
Michelle Deutsch has been practicing clinical mental health counseling since 2014. She earned her Master of Science in Education with a Certificate of Advanced Study from Alfred University in May of 2014. Michelle is originally from Western New York and moved to Colorado to pursue her career in mental health counseling after graduating from her graduate program in 2014. In her free time, Michelle enjoys exploring the mountains with her dogs, learning new recipes to cook for her friends and family, and reading.
Matthew “Matt” King started his practice at a community mental health agency in 2015 in Denver and has worked in both in-patient and integrated health care settings. Matt has worked extensively with teens, adults, and couples with special areas of expertise including trauma (PTSD), Marriage & Family Therapy, and substance abuse. Matt works in a collaborative style that allows him to join with the client in a safe, validating, and accepting way. Matt’s treatment modality is integrative and includes Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Existential Psychotherapy, Pragmatic Experiential Therapy with Couples, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). Matt earned his Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy in 2016 from Regis University. He is an avid mountain biker, hiker, and hot springs soaker.
Sara Jacobs is a big believer in Mountain Family’s integrated approach to health care and wellness. She holds a Master of Social Work degree from University of Maryland and has been working in mental health and integrated health settings for the past ten years. Based at our Basalt clinic, Sara sees adolescents, adults and seniors for therapy. Sara’s style is person-centered and strengths-based, and she has training and experience in trauma treatments including Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). Sara is also working toward a certification in addictions treatment. A Portland, Oregon, native, Sara has called the Roaring Fork Valley home since 2010. After hours, she enjoys cooking, skiing, and visiting the pool with her family.
Kate holds a Bachelors in Social Work from The Ohio State University and a Masters in Social Work from University of Denver. Kate is passionate about working with youth, families and the LGBTQIA+ community. In her free time you can find Kate outside, enjoying all that nature has to offer.
Ericka Dries grew up in the Roaring Fork Valley and is passionate about serving her community. Ericka earned her Master of Social Work Degree from the University of Denver Graduate School of Social Work in 2019, where she received the Dean Catherine F. Alter merit award. In her spare time, she enjoys being out in nature, running, and connecting with friends and family.
Cristina is a Roaring Fork Valley local. She joined Mountain Family in 2019, after finishing an internship with us. Cristina earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work in 2018 from Colorado Mesa University and her Master of Social Work from the University of Denver in 2019. Cristina’s experience is in school social work and behavioral health services in an integrated care setting. She is passionate about solution-focused, trauma-informed care, as well as providing services in Spanish. On her free time you might see Cristina on the trail while hiking, biking, at the gym or traveling the world.
Noreen Woods, PMHNP-BC, MSN, MPH has been practicing as an adult psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner since 2011. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience from Brown University and both her Master of Public Health and Master of Nursing from Yale University. She has treated patients in a variety of settings in New England, including correctional institutions, a community mental health center, a residential rehab facility for the treatment of substance use disorders, and a hospital-based outpatient clinic. Prior to her relocation to Colorado in June 2020, she had been working since 2016 as a psychiatric nurse practitioner in the geriatric psychiatry division at McLean Hospital in Belmont, Massachusetts, where she also assisted in clinical research efforts related to the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease. Clinical interests include mood and sleep disorders, addiction, and neurocognitive disorders. She enjoys skiing, camping, hiking, and attending music events in her spare time.
Casandra Armas was born and raised in Eagle County. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work in 2018 from Colorado Mesa University. In 2019, Casandra received her Master of Social Work from the University of Denver. She joined Mountain Family in 2019, shortly after finishing her internship with us. Casandra is passionate about working with children and teenagers. She finds the brain and human behavior to be fascinating and enjoys everything about the behavioral health field. In her spare time, you might see Casandra volunteering, traveling, playing soccer, or watching hockey.
